The Grotto in St Eugene's and St Columba's (Old) Graveyard

The Grotto in the 'Old Graveyard' seems to some people to have been there a long time but surprisingly it was built only as recently as November 2009.

Fr Brian O'Donnell PP Lavey to his credit initiated the construction apparently as a gift to Lavey Parish before his relocation to Maghera Parish.

The stone came from an old building in Ballymacpeake where Neal and Felix Mulholland once lived. Suitably shaped stone was selected and transported by tractor and trailer to Mayogall.

The statue is made of moulded fibreglass and was purchased from Kevin Kearney Co Armagh.

Brendan, Kieran and Owen select a suitable spot in the Old Graveyard for the new grotto.

Fr O'Donnell PP views the interesting memorial gravestone tablet uncovered during excavations for the grotto base.

The name on the small plaque was Margt Henry 1860 and it was reburied with dignity to the right of the newly built grotto.
